HOW TO SAVE MONEY AS AN OAU STUDENT: TOP TRICKS AND TIPS
You resumed a baller, not necessarily premium style, but at least God no shame you. First week, you’ve priced almost every food vendor on campus. You are even giving feedbacks and advice on where to “Dey alright”. Fast forward to the third week, when sapa has come knocking. Well, here’s one to help you, before it becomes your predicament.
These tips below are for you
1. Plan your money: This helps against impulse buying. It’s not that you’ll see doughnut or as e dey hot, and you’ll buy it. The best thing to do is plan your money even before it comes. Reserve the one you’ll need for transport, materials, stationeries and textbooks, upkeep, your savings, and even the one you’ll flex with. If you have multiple bank accounts, you can
use the different accounts for different things.
2. Save: This is simple enough, save a percentage of your money for rainy days. It really helps. That way, you have something to fall back to when things are tough.
3. Avoid gambling: Until Sporty sends you back to your village, some of you won’t learn. It’s when you play sporty that Coventry City will beat Bayern. Run away from gambling or it’ll destroy you.
4. Cook more: It’s almost impossible for you to avoid spending money either on food or snacks. Those days of not eating in the morning before going for 7am classes and you just have to choose between buying something to eat or trending with the headline “malnourished OAU student faints at motion ground- rushed to the Heath Centre”. Just know when to not spend your money on food and when to cook.
5. Stay on your lane: You wanna chill with the big boys? All well and good, but just don’t do it at your own risk. Some of you have real ballers as friends, who spend money like there is no tomorrow but you should know when to back off for your own good. This doesn’t necessarily mean disassociating yourself from them, but just find a way to stylishly avoid following them to places where you’d forced to spend money you don’t have.
6. Work: This might not particularly be for everyone, but if you have a way of making money, and it won’t affect your academics, please do it. Some students sell perfumes, some sell pastries, some sell clothes, some are hairstylists/ barbers, some are content creators, some are influencers, some are freelancers and even writers. If you don’t have any skill and you want to make money maybe online, interact with people. Follow who know road.
You’re welcome.
