HEALTHY HABITS FOR THE EXAM PERIOD

It’s that time of the semester again where you are constantly a shadow of yourself, and self-doubt, anxiety, sadness, numerous materials & PDFs are about to not let you breathe.

During exams, we all, one way or the other get carried away by the activities and aura that comes with it, and so it ends up messing with you, your appearance and if care is not taken sometimes, your performance. In summary, exams will test you!

Healthy habits for the exam

To avoid getting caught up in the ‘exam drama’ situation, here are some healthy habits for exams you need to adopt.

1.       Eat when necessary:

During exams, all your senses are active(dare I say) and as such, hunger is inevitable. Using your brain tediously around the clock and non-stop, would definitely make you lose energy fast. That is why you discover that when you read, you are easily fatigued.

On the other side of the coin, too much food is not the best because it makes you sleep. Hence why you have to eat only when it is necessary. Eat at least 3 times a day. Avoid stress eating (it’s a thing that people do to “ward off stress”, but that is a topic for another day)

2.       Stay hydrated:

This is a no-brainer. Drink water even when you do not feel thirsty. It helps your brain’s activity and leaves you feeling refreshed and hydrated. Besides, the weather is really hot and so drinking lots of water helps your system ‘cope’.

3.       Sleep:

I understand that there is so much to ‘cover’ but you would realize that even if you eventually stay up all night and cover, your brain might start to jumble it all up. You need sleep to lock it all in and get yourself together. You owe yourself at least 8 hours of sleep every day, but we all know that is not possible, so we can peg it at 3-4 hours of sleep before every exam. Your brain needs the calm, literally before the storm!

Fun fact is that it does not even have to be on your bed. Just make sure you sleep. In fact, you are allowed to go overboard with your alarms!

4.       Exercise your body:

Take regular walks and exercise your body. It helps your body feel alive and conscious and to an extent, can ward off depression. Even if you cannot do this, be intentional about trekking this period. That can suffice. Avoid jumping too many bikes this period!

5.       Take breaks:

Whenever you are studying, it is very important that you take periodic breaks before you resume studying again. These breaks help your brain relax and literally soak it all in. It could be taking a nap, taking a walk, regulated use of your devices, self calming activities etc.

6.       PRAY!:

No explanations needed. Pray and see what it would do for you.
