COMMON STUDENT BEHAVIORS THAT FRUSTRATE LECTURERS: A GUIDE TO CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE

a fuming lecturer

Lecturers in Nigerian universities are like bombs ticking and waiting to explode and you, yes you, can be the one who would be at the receiving end. But not to worry, this article would help you avoid these troubles.

The following are some of the things that rile up Lecturers in universities:

1.       Not attending lectures:

As a student, one of the most disastrous decisions to make is to be a truant. This not only tells on your overall performance, but it pisses the lecturers off.

2.       Tardiness :

Some lecturers would not even let you smell their doorposts if you are a minute late to their classes, while there are some who are a little lax. You can never be 100% sure of which, so you have to always be on your toes. But if you’re one of those OGs, you can go at any time you want. Them go whine you, but no panic!.

3.       Constant use of your devices in classes:

This is probably the rule number one to ten in every lecturer’s “dos and don’ts”. I can assure you, it is one of the fastest ways a lecturer would know your name and keep tabs on you in  every class. This is particularly prevalent to the elderly lecturers.

4.       Eating and sleeping during classes:

I understand that you might be tired or hungry and so, you’re either eating to pass time or sleeping, but trust me, no lecturer does. This is probably one of the most trivial, yet easiest ways to get in a lecturer’s bad book.

5.       Plagiarism:

This, in a typical Nigerian university is probably not that serious, but there are some lecturers that are wired differently to be your nemesis. On that one day you think they won’t check, best believe they will so just be careful all the time. As the saying goes, no loose guard!

do your work without plagiarizing

6.       Disrespectful attitude:

Half the time, what lands you in trouble is not the gravity of what you may have done or said. It is that ‘change it’ you tried to form. Once again, I understand that some lecturers can be wired differently to be your nemesis, but sometimes, you need to mellow because it can end up disastrous. Trust me, you would look back and come to a conclusion that it was not worth it.

lecturers hate confrontations

7.       August visits:

Another dangerous move you can make as a student is to show up at your lecturer’s office, unannounced. They probably are all on a Whatsapp group where they discuss how to vex and shout at students who do that.

I loved this a little too much

😂

Once had a crazy lecturer who would fume at a student hissing even if the hiss was not directed to her.
