6 HABITS YOU NEED TO DROP WITH 2024 AS A STUDENT

With the year wrapping up, below are some habits you might need to let go with 2024. Who knows, you might even add some of these to your new year resolutions.

stop bad habits

1. PROCRASTINATION

I still get time na”.   Lol, no you don’t !!

Some of you don’t touch your assignments until the night before the submission day. Some ancestors will even just start like 30 minutes to the submission time. Even for tests and exams, y’all know yourselves. You would then try to cover an entire syllabus the night before the exam. That’s when we’ll start seeing you with numerous bottles of Fearless

This habit actually hampers growth, and you might want to drop it with 2024.

NO PROCRASTINATION

2. LACK OF AMBITION:

Some of you just want to freestyle everything. No goals, no ambitions, no objectives, no plan. Just to survive.

Ambition drives hunger and that hunger can turn to a serious motivation. In 2025, set goals for yourself. It could be on anything. It could be academic; aim to win a prize by scoring the highest in a particular course, aim to have a certain GPA. It could be financial, it could even be social or relating to a trade, skill or sport.

have a plan/goal

3. OVER AMBITION

I’m sure we’ve all heard the song “vivid imagination…” Some of you, your problem has gone beyond lack of ambition. It’s over ambition, and it’s a very big problem because what do you mean when you say you want to buy Bentley in January 2025? Be calming down! Sometimes, you just have to be real with yourself, if not, you’ll keep chasing dust. Assess your ambitions and reassess your capacity to achieve them.

Sometimes you might need help, but some goals are just too unrealistic. This however shouldn’t deter you. Always shoot for the stars. Even if you don’t get there, who knows, you might land on the moon, while trying.

take it little by little

4. STABBING CLASSES

Some of you only attended a total of 5 classes throughout 2024. It has never not been emphasized that you have to attend classes, but it’s like you want the labours of heroes past to be in vain. But on a more serious note now, going to classes have a lot of advantages which cannot be overemphasized. Try to do better in 2025.

I know some lecturers don’t make it easy, and transport is very expensive, but the least you can do is try.

5. LIVING A ROUTINE LIFE:

Church/Mosque/Baba’s place – Class - Hostel (Repeat).

This is literally the lives of some of you. In fact, some will even remove that ‘Church/Mosque/Baba’s’ place. While it’s good to focus totally on your academics, there’s the factor that, employers have been clamouring for all-rounded employees. They want to know you outside your academics, and so you cannot afford to stab yourself in the leg, in that aspect.

In 2025, try a sport whether basketball, volleyball, tennis, football. Or you can join a club or association on campus. Legal one oo (just kidding).

6. NOT GOING TO CHURCH/MOSQUE/BABA’S PLACE (whichever one applies):

I know someone that only goes to church on his birthday. Some of you, as Muslims, you cannot pray even twice per day. Okay, go for Jumat service on Friday, nothing. Even if it’s baba’s place you always go to, try to go once in a while. E get why, and it really won’t hurt you.

You need to start your 2025 with the help and strength of a more superior and supernatural being. I’ve emphasized, and will keep emphasizing, how important it is, because as humans, there’s only so little you can do. It is that Supernatural being that you’ve put your ‘all’ in that would do the rest.

believe in God

There’s a whole lot of stuff that you do, and you know deep down that they won’t take you anywhere. I can’t mention everything. The onus is on you now, to be true to yourself and do the needful, before 2025.

You’re welcome!
